(short notes)

Portland, Oregon, USA

All beers reviewed were sampled at the brewpub in Portland, Oregon on July 25, 1998
Wit Belgian Wit * * * 1/2
Both curacao and coriander present in aroma.  No lactic note in flavor, a bit thin in body, but otherwise very nice, smooth, and a bit oily and bready.

Columbia Kriek Cherry Ale * * * *
Not a lambic, but an interesting beer nonetheless.  The cherries used create an acidic note in the aroma.  Cherries used are of the sour pie variety.  Moderate, underhopped pale ale serves as the basis for this beer, with the tartness of the cherries clearly dominating the flavor profile.  A thoroughly interesting beer.  1.065 O.G.

Pirahna Pale Ale American Pale * * * *
A hoppy, dry profile, with healthy amounts of hop character.  1.057 O.G., with chinooks and cascades being the dominant hop varieties.

Jeremiah Red Am. Amber * * *
A big, cloying beer.  Nutty caramelly flavor profile dominates, strong, and a bit on the cloying side.

Tatonka Stout Imperial Stout * * * *
At 1.086, this promises to be an interesting glass.  Alcohol and roasty notes in the aroma.  The flavor profile develops with malt, alcohol warmth, roast, and a deep maltiness to finish.  Wow.

AIPA

* * *

Hoppy aroma, but a pehnolic note detracts.  Hefty malt backbone, which is expected at 1.070; but perhaps the hoppiness is not strong enough for such a big IPA.
