Flag Pilsner
Stork Premier
Casablanca Lager BeerJune, 2001
I visited Morocco in June, 2001. In Tangier we stayed in a glorious, run-down hotel in the medina. Alcohol is not allowed in the medina, so we had to smuggle these beers into our room from the one liquor store we could find in the city.
You don't visit Morocco for the beer, though it must be said that a couple of the cabernets were good enough to take home.
Casablanca Lager Beer Vague Lager ![]()
This was the best of the three beers we had, and the only one I considered drinkable in a pinch. A heavy DMS presence dominated the aroma, and as expected the flavor opened vegital. An honest, even agreeable maltiness was present in the middle, but any positive feelings were scuttled by a grainy, astringent finish. Bottle.
Flag Pilsner Pilsner
Dark golden in color (like the other two). DMS in the aroma of this one as well, some malt in the flavor with a slight cidery presence. Finishes tinny and grainy. Can.
Stork Premier Lager
Since that August day in 1995 when I and two comrades walked into TJ's Bar and Grill in Novato, California and ordered pints of crappy homebrew, I wondered when I would pay money for a beer that bad. It took six years, but I found it. This is an awful beer. DMS and cider dominate the nose. A big vegital flavor dominates the flavor, only after edging out more cidery sweet and sour. To finish well, an astringent finish is deployed. I couldn't have but several sips.
